Social media is constantly changing and new features are being added all the time, it can often be difficult to keep up-to-date and know what features to keep up with.
Most of the time these features that are being rolled out are often just enhanced features and sometimes not really worth noting.  However, equally these updated features no matter how small can be the difference between running a successful social media marketing strategy or not.  As a business it is imperative to keep up to date with rolled out features whether you think its worthy or not in order to ensure you are using your resources effectively.
Our Social media niche experts deal with various clients on a daily basis and through their experience they have come up with three features that clients often forget about or are sometimes unaware of that they can utilise to their benefit.
You may well already be aware of these features but we have put together this list as we find these are common features that are missed and utilised effectively.

  1. Instagram Account Switching

Although this feature was introduced by Instagram in early 2016 this is probably one of the top features that our social media experts come across as not being utilised, most times it is because clients are unaware of it or they just don’t know how to do it.  As a business often enough you find that you will have multiple profiles and it can be very frustrating and time consuming having to log in and out of accounts, it not only delays you but can cause you to miss out on vital information.
It is a simple feature that can be done through the click of a button, now making it easy for you to switch between your personal and business account.  Instagram allows you to manage up to 5 accounts which is particularly effective for businesses with multiple profiles or social media managers.  For further information and help on how to utilise this feature you can use Instagram’s instructions.

  2. Facebook Age Restrictions

Now this is such a simple feature introduced by Facebook and there are good reasons as to why you would want to have age restrictions set up.  Depending on the type of business you have and what you are promoting it can be in your benefit to set up age restrictions to ensure that you are optimised for reaching the right target demographic.
We had a recent client who was promoting their vaping business they supplied vaping equipment and e-liquids containing nicotine, clearly an ‘over 18’ type of business.  They came to us to help manage their social media accounts including their Facebook Page and wanted to know why younger audiences were able to see their pages.  Upon thorough review of their Facebook page our social media experts noticed that they had not had age restrictions in place.  Changing this small feature for them meant that promotion was utilised effectively and the right target demographic was being pursued.
This feature introduced by Facebook is to benefit businesses, to ensure that the right target demographic is reached and to ensure that certain pages are identified as inappropriate for younger audiences.  Age restriction settings start from 13+ up to 21+ with the inclusion of  ‘Alcohol related’.  To find out more information on how to utilise this feature you can use Facebook’s instructions.

  3. Promoting Events on Facebook Local

This is a particularly good feature for B2B businesses, as it allows you to increase your reach and visibility.  Facebook Local is an app designed to bring local events and businesses together through apps like Yelp and Foursquare.  The way it works is that Facebook uses its own analytical data to show what events Facebook users are attending and where they are going.  The more people to check in at your events the higher up you will be listed on the app.  Therefore ultimately gaining more attention and visibility for your business thus increasing potential customers.  If events is a part of your marketing strategy be sure to promote them through Facebook and utilise the Facebook local app.
